The Drum Photoshoot (Drumshoot)
A few years ago I decided that I needed more pictures of myself. Especially if I'm going to be designing an online portfolio soon.
Most people here in Colorado and especially Boulder usually just go up to Cautauqua and take photos of themselves all dressed up with the sun beating down on them. If I were going to go up in the mountains I wanted to be surrounded by snow. The true mountain experience.
I thought it would be boring to just drive up a mountain and pose for an hour or so and then drive back down. I wanted to do something that would make an impact.
At 6am on a saturday morning I packed up my drumset and drove up Flagstaff mountain. I found a great spot off the road a bit and set up camp there for the morning.
I didn't bring the whole set, just the three drums and hi hat, which ended up working out because you were able to see my face and movements better.
Drummin' on a Mountain
As I played the drums my girlfriend took photos of me with my camera. I brought different outfits so I could try out different styles.
As I played people would drive up the mountain and give us a thumbs up. One guy said that it was "the most badass thing he's ever seen".
Not going to lie... it was pretty epic.
It was a bit cloudy that day, but honestly, the lighting turned out to work in my favor. With the snow on the ground and clouds in the sky it made for an epic backdrop.
